Dr. A. K. Majumdar, Advisor To The Vice chancellor Adamas University

Dr. Arun K. Majumdar is currently a Professor of Eminence and Advisor to the Vice Chancellor of Adamas University, West Bengal.


Dr. Majumdar had been a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, West Bengal, for more than three decades. He has supervised several Ph. D and Masters’ level theses and has more than 200 research publications in international journals and conferences. Professor Majumdar is a Fellow the Indian National Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), and a Senior Life Member of the IEEE(USA). His research interests include data and knowledge based systems, multimedia systems, data analytics, medical informatics, and design automation.


Professor Majumdar received M. Tech and Ph. D. degrees from the University of Calcutta, in Applied Physics in 1968 and 1973, respectively. He also earned a Ph. D degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA, in 1976.


Professor Majumdar has held several administrative positions at I. I. T. Kharagpur, that include Deputy Director from 2009-2012, Dean (Faculty and Planning) from 2002-2005, Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department from 1992 to 1995 and again from 1998 to 2001, Head of the Computer and Informatics Centre from 1999 to 2003 and Head of the School of Medical Science and Technology from 2005-2006 .


He had been a member of several technical committees advising different Ministries of the Central and State Governments as well as Industries and Institutions in India on information technology related matters. Before joining the IIT, Kharagpur, in 1980, Professor Majumdar served as a faculty member at Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta, and Jawaharlal Nehru University , New Delhi. He was a Visiting Professor in the Computing and Information Sciences Department of the University of Guelph, Canada in 1986 – 87 and at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, U. S. A. in 1999, 2003 and 2006.
