B.Sc. (Food, Nutrition and Dietetics)

Program Introduction

The program B. Sc. in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics aims to develop basic understanding of nutrition and diet, its effect on human health and newer advances in food science. This programencompasses physiological, biochemical and energy aspects of food and discusses the relation between metabolites and human health.

Moreover, the course is focused on the advances in the most emerging area of applied science of Nutraceuticals. The knowledge of nutrition and diet under extreme climate conditions, special nutritional requirement, and nourishment empower students’ knowledge and skills to utilize food as a powerful tool for physical, mental, and social wellbeing.

The program provides ample opportunities for the students about the latest diet plan and nutritional requirements with hand on practices in the food industry, hospitals and clinics.

Eligibility:

Minimum 50% aggregate in 10 +2 or equivalent from any recognized board with science background (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).

Duration of Course: 3 years (Full Time)

Program Outcome (PO’s)

PO1: Graduates will acquire knowledge about energy requirements and the Recommended Dietary Allowances.

PO2: Graduates will demonstrate an ability to identify, formulate and solve the problems associated with human nutrition and diet sources

PO3: Graduates will exhibit an ability to conduct, analyze and interpret data arising out of research experience into food value, nutrition & diseases

PO4: Graduates will demonstrate an ability to design formulation & Synthetic process as per needs and specifications of patient/normal nutrition of humans & nutraceutical industry.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO’s)

PEO1: To build a strong theoretical knowledge base along with necessary practical skill and be able to use these experiences in the food, nutrition and dietetics research & development in nutraceutical industry, hospitals and in academia. Further, the graduates will acquire required skills for entrepreneurship activities.

PEO2: To acquire competence in the skills of assessment, planning, management & evaluation of food services, nutrition and dietetics services in institutional food and community nutrition. The student will utilize advanced principles of health literacy, including critical thinking skills, literature searches, data collection and interpretation, necessary for the implementation of food and nutrition services in professional setting. Further, the graduates will acquire required skills for entrepreneurship activities.

PEO3: To extend the acquired knowledge to create novel designs and specific diets for the prevention of diseases and special conditions for the benefit of human life.

Bachelor of Optometry

Program Introduction

The Bachelor of Optometry (B. OPTOM) is an undergraduate program to be offered by the School of Medical Sciences, Adamas University, Kolkata.

B.Optom from allied health sciences department specially deals with studies of eyes and its connected organs, diseases of the visual system and prescribing the correction of refractive error with glasses or contact lenses and the treatment of eye diseases. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals such as ophthalmologists and opticians to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.

The programme encompasses the study of optometry vision sciences, anatomy and physiology of eye, mechanisms of disease optics and visual science, contact lenses, orthoptics, low vision and rehabilitation. The students after graduating will become competent professionals through hands-on training and regular field visits and hospital training in optometric practice and aspects of clinical optometry, contact lenses paediatric optometry and binocular vision eye diseases and treatments. They may pursue their individual practice independently or serve in government or privately managed firms to contribute to the healthcare needs of the society.

PO 7: Graduates will be able to diagnose and treat different binocular vision anomalies cases with various eye exercises and optometry prescriptions.

PO 8: Graduates will be able to takeover different public health optometry projects and vision screening camp.

PO 9: Graduates will examine clinical cases and develop suitable treatment plan for ocular and systemic diseases.

PO 10: Graduates will acquire the professional skills to tackle various challenging eye conditions and ocular emergencies.

PO 11: Graduates will follow the laws and regulation related to the optometry profession laid by the authorities.

PO 12: Graduates will be able set up optometry clinic, eye hospital and optical industry.

B.Sc (Medical Laboratory Technology) (BMLT)

Program Introduction

B. Sc in Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) is a 4-years undergraduate program “Offered under Department of Pharmaceutical Technology 2021-22” that caters to the field of Allied Health Sciences. This program aims at creating professionals with the knowledge of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease with the help of clinical laboratory tests. The program equips eligible candidates with an advanced learning in both routine and sophisticated laboratory diagnostic procedures. Students enrolled to the program are taught to perform tests that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This program aims to creating professional with the requisite knowledge and skills needed to handle sophisticated lab equipment and perform accurate laboratory tests.

Duration of Course: 4 years

Objectives/aim of the course:

1. Proficiently perform a full range of clinical laboratory tests
2. Develop and evaluate test systems and interpretive algorithms
3. Manage information to enable effective, timely, accurate, and cost-effective reporting of
laboratory-generated information

Expectation from the future graduate in providing patient care:
At the end of the course the student should be able to:

1. Perform routine clinical laboratory testing.
2. Make specimen-oriented decisions on predetermined criteria including working knowledge of critical values.
3. Communicate with other members of healthcare team, customers and patients in an effective manner.
4. Process information and ensure quality control as appropriate to routine laboratory procedures.
5. Train students in routine laboratory procedure.
6. Upgrade knowledge and skills in a changing healthcare scenario.
7. Should know the logical interpretation of clinical lab investigations.
8. Should be able to extrapolate data acquired.
9. Should be able to working on automated machine.

PEO 1. Graduates will be qualified professionals in Medical Laboratory Sciences and pursue career in Government and private diagnostic labs, hospital labs, clinical labs, public health labs, R & D and successful entrepreneurship.
