M.Pharm (Pharmacology)

Program Description
M. Pharm (Pharmacology) is a 2-year post-graduate program to provide the knowledge about how drugs act on biological systems and how the body responds to the drug.  This program caters in-depth knowledge on handling various equipment and developing animal models for screening, the molecular and cellular mechanism of action, deficiency and excess release related endocrine disorders, alternative methods for animal toxicity testing employed in drug discovery and development, and various targets for drug discovery, various lead-seeking methods and lead optimization, designing different protocols, regulations and ethical requirements for the usage of experimental animals.
Eligibility:
B. Pharm degree examination of an Indian University established by law in India from an institution approved by Pharmacy Council of India and has scored not less than 55% of the maximum marks (aggregate of four years of B. Pharm)
Duration of Program: 2 years

PEO1: To make available a complete applied pharmaceutical education leading to M. Pharm. Degree in Pharmacology.
PEO2: To instruct the detailed concept of advanced pharmacology, pre-clinical pharmacology, molecular pharmacology, and toxicology along with clinical applications of drugs.
PEO3: To impart the basic knowledge of safety/toxicity and its management along with the principles of bioassay of different drugs.
PEO4: To inculcate skills for assortment of different experimental models in order to screen different pharmacological agents along with several regulatory ethical guidelines concerned with it.
PEO5: To cultivate the skills related to signaling concepts of drugs with special attention given to endogenous bioactive molecules, and their pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics profile.
PEO6: To deliver a strong foundation regarding pharmacology andmolecular pharmacology which would be a framework for future pharmacological approaches to a specific problem in the field of drug development.

M. Pharm (Pharmaceutics)

Program Introduction

The program M. Pharm (Pharmaceutics) is a 2-years post-graduate program designed to train the students for understanding of advancements in pharmaceutical manufacturing industry as well as academia. This program provides in-depth knowledge to acquire laboratory skills and its applications.

Moreover, the program caters the opportunities of hands on training of practical aspects of formulation and development and characterization of various conventional and advanced dosage forms. The program is supposed to make the students able to think logically and solve the problems, as well as to develop an ability to conduct, analyze and interpret data of pharmaceutical experiments in various departments (Eg: Drug discovery, Formulation & Development, Production, Quality control & Quality assurance etc) as per the needs of pharmaceutical industries and to work on multidisciplinary tasks simultaneously.

Eligibility:

B.Sc. (Food, Nutrition and Dietetics)

Program Introduction

The program B. Sc. in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics aims to develop basic understanding of nutrition and diet, its effect on human health and newer advances in food science. This programencompasses physiological, biochemical and energy aspects of food and discusses the relation between metabolites and human health.

Moreover, the course is focused on the advances in the most emerging area of applied science of Nutraceuticals. The knowledge of nutrition and diet under extreme climate conditions, special nutritional requirement, and nourishment empower students’ knowledge and skills to utilize food as a powerful tool for physical, mental, and social wellbeing.

The program provides ample opportunities for the students about the latest diet plan and nutritional requirements with hand on practices in the food industry, hospitals and clinics.

Eligibility:

Minimum 50% aggregate in 10 +2 or equivalent from any recognized board with science background (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).

Duration of Course: 3 years (Full Time)

Further, the graduates will acquire required skills for entrepreneurship activities.

PEO2: To acquire competence in the skills of assessment, planning, management & evaluation of food services, nutrition and dietetics services in institutional food and community nutrition. The student will utilize advanced principles of health literacy, including critical thinking skills, literature searches, data collection and interpretation, necessary for the implementation of food and nutrition services in professional setting. Further, the graduates will acquire required skills for entrepreneurship activities.

PEO3: To extend the acquired knowledge to create novel designs and specific diets for the prevention of diseases and special conditions for the benefit of human life.

Bachelor of Optometry

Program Introduction

The Bachelor of Optometry (B. OPTOM) is an undergraduate program to be offered by the School of Medical Sciences, Adamas University, Kolkata.

B.Optom from allied health sciences department specially deals with studies of eyes and its connected organs, diseases of the visual system and prescribing the correction of refractive error with glasses or contact lenses and the treatment of eye diseases. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals such as ophthalmologists and opticians to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.

The programme encompasses the study of optometry vision sciences, anatomy and physiology of eye, mechanisms of disease optics and visual science, contact lenses, orthoptics, low vision and rehabilitation. The students after graduating will become competent professionals through hands-on training and regular field visits and hospital training in optometric practice and aspects of clinical optometry, contact lenses paediatric optometry and binocular vision eye diseases and treatments. They may pursue their individual practice independently or serve in government or privately managed firms to contribute to the healthcare needs of the society.

Eligibility:

Minimum 50% aggregate in 10 +2 or equivalent from any recognized board with science background (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).

 

Duration of Program: 4 years (3 years course curriculum+ 1 year project + internship)

B.Sc (Medical Laboratory Technology) (BMLT)

Program Introduction

B. Sc in Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) is a 4-years undergraduate program “Offered under Department of Pharmaceutical Technology 2021-22” that caters to the field of Allied Health Sciences. This program aims at creating professionals with the knowledge of the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease with the help of clinical laboratory tests. The program equips eligible candidates with an advanced learning in both routine and sophisticated laboratory diagnostic procedures. Students enrolled to the program are taught to perform tests that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This program aims to creating professional with the requisite knowledge and skills needed to handle sophisticated lab equipment and perform accurate laboratory tests.

Duration of Course: 4 years

Objectives/aim of the course:

1. Proficiently perform a full range of clinical laboratory tests
2. Develop and evaluate test systems and interpretive algorithms
3. Manage information to enable effective, timely, accurate, and cost-effective reporting of
laboratory-generated information

Expectation from the future graduate in providing patient care:
At the end of the course the student should be able to:

1. Perform routine clinical laboratory testing.
2. Make specimen-oriented decisions on predetermined criteria including working knowledge of critical values.

B.Pharm

Program Introduction

The program B. Pharm is a four year undergraduate program and is the cornerstone of pharmacy education in India. The course helps students to become acquainted with the production and manufacturing of drugs and its distribution across the country. The program offers indepth knowledge in various facets including physiology and pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry and drug design, drug delivery, formulation development, natural products, herbal medicines, quality control, regulatory affairs to drug marketing, microbiology as well as biochemistry.

The course is focused to develop professionals ready for various employment sectors like production, quality control, research and drug discovery, quality assurance, marketing including government jobs like Pharmacist, Drug Inspector, Drug Counsellor, etc.

The pharmaceutical industry is an ever-growing industry, in which there is always scope of growth and development. Hence, there is an assurance that no matter what the economic situation is, this field that will always boom and update to meet current healthcare needs. Adverse situations like pandemic and epidemic conditions have strengthened the role Pharmacy professionals in healthcare sector and is expected to attract renewed interest both from government and private sectors. The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) is the regulatory body of this programenvisaged with its development at par with global standards.

Eligibility:

Minimum 60% aggregate in 10+2 or equivalent from any recognized board conducted by the respective state/central government authorities recognized as equivalent to 10+2 examination by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology as optional subjects individually. Students have to secure a minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying examination. “However, the students possessing 10+2 qualification from non-formal and non-class rooms based schooling such as National Institute of Open Schooling, open school systems of States etc. shall not be eligible for admission to B. Pharm Course.”

  1. Any other qualification approved by the Pharmacy Council of India as equivalent to any of the above examinations.
