The International Association of Universities (IAU) successfully concluded its 2023 International Conference at Qatar University, focusing on the theme “Higher Education with Impact: The Importance of Intercultural Learning and Dialogue.” Held from November 25 to 27, the conference provided a platform for global discussions on the crucial role universities play in fostering intercultural competence.

Universities, as melting pots of diverse perspectives, were hailed as key environments to cultivate intercultural understanding. The conference emphasized the significance of embracing diversity, fostering appreciation for differences, and preparing graduates for success in an interconnected world. This commitment to intercultural learning was seen as pivotal for nurturing values such as human rights, democracy, the rule of law, and the promotion of global peace. The IAU 2023 Intercultural Conference delved into the strategies employed by universities worldwide to promote and support intercultural learning and dialogue. Delegates examined the impact of geopolitics on these initiatives and explored broader societal implications.

In a groundbreaking move towards enhancing global learning opportunities and fostering academic collaboration, Adamas University has officially entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Anglia Ruskin University, UK. The historic agreement was inked during the Bengal Business Summit, marking the beginning of a new era in international education.

The partnership aims to provide students from both universities with a platform for engaging in a wide array of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, strategically designed to cultivate leadership skills. By fostering a collaborative environment, the institutions intend to create a holistic learning experience that transcends geographical boundaries.

One of the key highlights of this collaboration is the implementation of diverse internationalization strategies, including robust student exchange programs spanning various academic disciplines. Adamas University’s Centre for Study of Contemporary Theory and Research (CSCTR) has recently formalized a partnership with Sappho for Equality, a prominent Kolkata-based NGO committed to championing the rights and social justice of individuals with non-normative gender and sexual orientations. The collaboration aims to introduce a transformative short-term certificate course titled “Queering the Discourse: Addressing Social Exclusion and Marginalization.”

Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), Sappho for Equality will play a pivotal role in co-designing the course curriculum, conducting workshop sessions, and offering internships to the top 10 participants upon course completion. The 35-hour program seeks to delve into the critical aspects of social exclusion and marginalization faced by gender and sexually marginalized individuals within society.

Sappho for Equality, established in 1999, boasts a track record of impactful collaborations, including previous engagements with St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and workshops conducted at esteemed institutions such as Jadavpur University. The organization has been recognized for building bridges between normative and non-normative gender-sexual populations.

Adamas University sees this collaboration as an enriching opportunity for its students, research scholars, and faculty members to actively engage with Sappho for Equality on issues related to gender and queer discourse. Furthermore, the partnership extends the reach of Adamas University beyond its campus, facilitating interaction with students and scholars from other institutions working in the same field.

The MoU is set to span three years, with the course scheduled to be offered annually in January. The collaborative effort envisions providing an updated syllabus content each year to ensure the course remains relevant and aligned with evolving discourse on gender and sexual diversity.

This strategic partnership reflects a shared commitment to fostering inclusive education and advancing social justice, placing Adamas University and Sappho for Equality at the forefront of initiatives addressing issues of social exclusion and marginalization within contemporary society.

Adamas University recently organised a winter camp to offer high school students an exceptional and immersive learning opportunity while nurturing creativity, teamwork, and personal development. The camp provided accommodations, ensuring a well-rounded experience for participants from diverse schools across the state, including Don Bosco School, Kharagpur; Kalyani Central Model School, Kalyani; Kalyani Public School, Barasat, and others. 

Attendees received valuable career guidance alongside opportunities to engage in various competitions and activities like the Karate workshop, dance faceoff, recitation competition, music competition, and many more. Moreover, the exceptional performers were rewarded with certifications.

Prof (Dr.) Samit Ray, Chancellor, of Adamas University, said that the Winter Camp was a testament to their dedication to holistic education, fostering academic excellence and vital life skills in an enjoyable setting.

Mr. Chandrajit Mitra, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales, at Adamas University, expressed excitement about relaunching the winter camp, providing a unique learning and creative platform for students’ personal development.

Adamas University received an award at the sixth industry-academia conclave for “Promising Private University for Academic Excellence in Eastern India 2023”.

Along with Adamas, more than 35 institutions in India, including IIT and IIMs, received awards for their contribution to Indian academics. This ceremony was organised by the Federation for World Academics and held in Delhi. 

The theme of this conclave was ‘Opportunities and Challenges in Technical Education: Implications on India, Post-G20-2023 Summit Success.’

T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), was the chief guest of the conclave. The inaugural panel discussion was graced by Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIM Ahmedabad; Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar; and Shailendra Singh, IIM Lucknow.

In the ceremony, ChatGPT left everyone stunned by producing a Hindi poem on AICTE, showcasing AI’s swift prowess. Prof. Sitharam highlighted PM Modi’s Jan Bhagidari Initiative, emphasising India’s global strategic standing during the G20 Presidency.”

Adamas University signed an MoU with Kathmandu University on 4 November 2023 during the Higher Education Symposium 2023 event hosted by the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal in collaboration with CII.

The memorandum was signed in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray, Founder Chancellor, Adamas University, Prof. Shauvik Roy Chowdhury, Registrar, Adamas University and Prof. (Dr.) Bhola Thapa, Kathmandu University. 

Through this MoU, the University strives to facilitate joint research activities, innovations, workshops and seminars.  

Adamas SA recently became champions of the Calcutta Football League 2023 2nd Division after a victory over Town Club. The team not only secured the 2nd Division title but also ensured their promotion to the 1st Division for the upcoming season.

The Adamas SA team finished with a tally of 30 points and outshone their competitors with proper skill, determination, and teamwork.

The star of the team was Swarnadip Sangma, who showcased his talent and finesse on the field. He achieved the title of the highest scorer in the 2nd Division with 12 goals.

Dr. Chiranjib Chakravartty, a renowned professor in the School of Life Science and Biotechnology at Adamas University excels in the fields of Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Clinical Medicine. Meanwhile, Banani Kundu, an Assistant Professor at the same institution, has earned accolades for her work in Polymer and Biomedical Engineering. This recognition is based on data provided by Stanford University in the United States.

The Top 2% Scientist List, compiled annually by Stanford University in the USA, is a testament to the global impact of scientific research and innovation. It represents a distinguished collection of scientists from various disciplines who have made significant contributions to their respective fields.
