Introduction of the Program:
A master’s degree can open a whole new world of career opportunities. Master of Arts in Psychology under the School of Health and Medical Sciences (SOHMS) indicate strong liberal arts focus and concentration on research and the behavioural sciences. This degree is designed to prepare graduates for professional practice in their specialty area and serve as preparation for further study at the doctoral level.
Objective of the Programme:
- To introduce students to the basic concepts of the field of psychology with an emphasis on applications of psychology in everyday life as well as different field of psychology as such Clinical Psychology, Industrial Psychology, Consumer Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Human Resource Management & Development, Criminology & Forensic Science, Counselling Psychology, etc.
- To provide an in-depth understanding of some of the cognitive processes, understand the importance of these cognitive processes in everyday life, to respect and use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry, and the scientific approach
- To solve problems relating to mental processes.
- Acquire basic knowledge of personality psychology, to understand how personality psychology relates to important issues in their lives.
- To gain knowledge about the ground-breaking science of happiness and positive psychology, this explores the roots of a happy and meaningful life.
- To help students understand the basic principles of human development, to assist students to appreciate the transition across the developmental stages of human life.
- To introduces students to the theory and research on the social factors that influence individual and group behavior.
- To discuss both the theoretical and empirical facts behind measurement of psychological attributes and the creation of scales to measure variables.
- The basic concept, needs and importance of counselling psychology.
- To develop the understanding about the need and importance of stress management, theoretical concept of stress, major sources of stress, management, and intervention of stress.

PGA 01 / PO 01: Knowledge of Psychology: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of psychological theories and principles and able to integrate the knowledge in more constructive ways.
PGA 02 / PO 02: Application of Psychological Principles: Apply the knowledge of psychological principles in different areas of psychological research as well as in more applied areas of psychology.
PGA 03 / PO 03: Community Based Implementation of Psychological Principles: Apply the principles and techniques of psychosocial theories in community-based programs for the welfare of the community at large.
PGA 04 / PO 04: Advanced Understanding of Psychological Research: Conceptualize, conduct, organize, integrate and execute independent forms of research by applying the principles of research methodology.
PGA 05 / PO 05: Ethics in Psychology: Understand and follow the ethical considerations in dealing with clients and community at large.
PGA 06 / PO 06: Soft skills and Effective Communication: Demonstrate soft skills and effective communication skills while dealing with clients and professional bodies.
Career Opportunities:
Upon successfully completing the postgraduate course in Psychology, the students will acquire the knowledge about the various domains of psychology and their application in everyday life and different fields of study. They will be able to work as counsellors, researchers, clinical psychologists, industrial/organizational psychologists in companies, work in various projects as psychologists in the community, professors in colleges/universities. They will get a broad canvas to apply their in-depth knowledge of psychology in everyday life.
Eligibility:
Minimum 50% aggregate in 10 +2 or equivalent from any recognized board and Minimum 50% aggregate in Social Science (Sociology, Social Work, Education, Human Development & Developmental Studies) or Behavioral Science (Psychology) in undergraduate degree from any recognized University in India or abroad.
