Dr. Snehamanju Basu has made significant contributions to academia and administration throughout her career. She began her academic journey at Lal Baba College, where she established the Department of Geography and initiated the honours program as its sole faculty member. In 1999, she joined Kalinagar Mahavidyalaya as an Assistant Professor, where she again played a pivotal role in founding the geography honours course and advancing the institution’s academic development.
Since 2001, Dr. Basu has been associated with Lady Brabourne College. She was instrumental in launching the postgraduate department in geography in 2003, which she developed into an Advanced Research Centre in 2014. Under her guidance, the department flourished, and she began mentoring Ph.D. scholars in 2013. During her tenure, she took on various administrative roles, including Teacher-in-Charge and Officer in Charge, and organized the first workshop on the CBCS curriculum in collaboration with the UG Council of the University of Calcutta.
In 2018, Dr. Basu broke new ground by becoming the first female Registrar at Jadavpur University, where she continues her commitment to academic excellence. Her scholarly contributions include authoring and editing books, publishing numerous research papers, presenting at national and international conferences, and serving on several academic committees and governing bodies in West Bengal.
Dr. Basu is an active member of esteemed organizations such as the Geographical Society of India (GSI), Indian National Cartographic Association (INCA), and the International Geographical Congress (IGC) on Globalization, Marginalization, Regional and Local Responses, among others. Her dynamic leadership and academic expertise have significantly influenced the field of geography and the institutions she has served
