The Tagore Institute of Peace Studies (TIPS), Adamas University, Kolkata, in collaboration with the Indian Museum, Kolkata, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is hosting a special symposium as part of Japan Month on September 15, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Exhibition Space of the Indian Museum.
Titled “The Asia of Harmony: Reimagining the Tagore-Okakura Peace Philosophy for the 21st-Century Indo-Pacific,” the symposium will explore the historic intellectual ties between India and Japan and their relevance to contemporary peace, cultural diplomacy and Indo-Pacific cooperation.
The programme will be presided over by Mr. Sitaram Sharma, President, TIPS, with special addresses by Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray, Hon'ble Chancellor, Adamas University and Dr. Sayan Bhattacharya, Director, Indian Museum, Kolkata.
The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Suranjan Das, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Adamas University, on “From Rabindranath Tagore to Modern Indo-Pacific Strategy: Civilisational Foundation of India-Japan Trust.” Distinguished speakers including Prof. Tridib Chakraborty, Prof. Shantanu Chakrabarty and Dr. Debasish Nandy will offer academic perspectives on the Tagore-Okakura legacy and its contemporary significance.
Adding a cultural dimension to the symposium will be a live painting performance by renowned Japanese artist Nami Natsumi from Shizuoka, Japan.
Supported by The Dialogue Today as the Public Relations Partner, the event aims to encourage meaningful dialogue connecting history, philosophy, culture and contemporary Indo-Japanese relations, while highlighting the enduring vision of a peaceful and harmonious Asia.
