Eastern India’s first CENTRE FOR STEM CELL BIOLOGY AND REGENERATIVE MEDICINE at Adamas University

Subhash Mukhopadhyay Centre for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (SMC-SCBRM) was inaugurated recently by Nobel laureate Prof. Ada Yonath in presence of Dr. Samit Ray, Chancellor, Adamas University on 4th February 2023.

The Centre is the first in eastern India dedicated to research on stem cells and regenerative sciences have been named after Dr. Subhash Mukhopadhyay who pioneered the utilization of hormone (Gonadotrophin) to stimulate ovulation, the use of Posterior Colpotomy technique over laparoscopy, Cryo-preservation of the embryo following IVF, and to implant the embryo in the natural menstrual cycle when the uterus is maximum.
The centre is linked with National Genomics Core, and NIBMG, as well as collaborated with institutes like AIIMS, IISc, NCBS, Harvard University, European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Northwestern University, University of California, Missouri State University and others. The Start-up Research Grants funded projects of around 60 lakhs INR, and Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

SMC-SCBRM constituted the Institutional Committee for Stem Cell Research registered with ICMR and has access to embryonic stem cell lines from Cambridge UK, approved by the Stem cell Steering Committee, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
